Microwave‐Assisted Synthesis of Bioactive Pyridine‐Functionalized <i>N</i>‐Alkyl‐Substituted (Benz)Imidazolium Salts

Abstract Imidazolium salts have always been well recognized as the precursors to ionic liquids. Various studies extended their biological properties, in which many discovered interesting results. In this study, a series of pyridine‐functionalized (benz)imidazolium were synthesized using conventional synthetic method, and microwave irradiation. The products tested biologically against list microorganisms via broth microdilution assay cancer cell lines standard MTT assay. Lead compound 4 e exhibited great antimicrobial properties with lowest MIC value 3.91 μg/mL Bacillus cereus , subtilis Staphylococcus aureus Enterococcus faecalis . Remarkable anticancer 3 f shown IC 50 low 0.71 μM human colon (HCT116). From our values surpassed potency positive controls such chloramphenicol (8.08–16.2 μg/mL) cisplatin (10.78 μM) respectively. Additionally, use irradiation has significantly reduced reaction time from 5 days setup, 3‐hour synthesizer.
